In-Place estimation of concrete strength during the construction of a highway bridge by the maturity
Descripción: The maturity method was used as an in-place technique for the determination of compressive strength during the construction of a highway bridge at the intersection of Interstate-78 and state highway 21 in New Jersey. The objective was to demonstrate the feasibility for using the maturity method in future New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) projects. The 28-day cylinder strength did not closely represent the in-place concrete strength or include the effects of placement, and curing operations, and a more rapid procedure was needed to proceed with critical construction operations. This project served as a pilot for subsequent establishment of Departmental training and procedural operations for the construction of concrete structures.

Construction of the My Thuan Cable-Stayed Bridge
Descripción: The My Thuan Bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge in Vietnam and the second crossing over the Mekong River. The 23.6 m (77.5 ft) wide in-place concrete deck is supported by two planes of stay cables anchored from two H-shaped towers 120 m (394 ft) high.

Conductive-Concrete Overlays
Descripción: Bridge decks are prone to ice accumulation, making winter travel treacherous. Road salts and some other deicing chemicals are cost effective, but may cause surface scaling, reinforcing-steel corrosion, or both. Another alternative is a thin, conductive-concrete overlay that, when connected to a power source, can generate enough heat through electrical resistance to prevent ice formation on the deck or melt ice after it forms.
Using a conductive concrete overlay provides an environment-friendly deicing method that would prolong bridge service life by significantly reducing the use of road salt and deicing chemicals.
